About the job
What does that mean for you? As our first Developer Advocate, you’ll focus on authentically increasing awareness and adoption of r2c’s vision and products among the AppSec and developer communities. This won’t happen overnight - or in the first quarter.
We’re looking for someone excited to lay the groundwork for our developer relations strategy and program, and knows that comes with a lot of iterations and a love of learning. This is a player/coach role: you’ll start as an individual contributor and will rapidly build a team after demonstrating success and efficacy in your position. You’ll thrive in this role if you have written code, can get others excited about technology, and aren’t afraid to dive into in the technical weeds. We’re excited to see what you can accomplish and how you empower the Semgrep community to achieve great things.
What you'll do
Design our DevRel strategy from scratch, painting the vision for the program, identifying objectives, and determining what success looks like
Educate the security and developer communities about the value of enforcing security and code standards
Listen to users and the broader community, understand pain points and opportunities, and deliver feedback to the engineering and product teams
Build and grow relationships with key members of the community
Present at industry meetups, conferences, and community events
Make a direct, tangible impact on the product’s and company’s growth
What you have
5+ years of experience in developing, supporting, or advocating for software products as a software developer, architect, application security engineer, developer advocate, or community manager
3+ years of experience working in a successful developer relations program and a portfolio of content ready to share
A desire to build a new developer relations strategy and program from scratch
Have a love for enabling, helping, and guiding others to help them do something new
Captivating presentation skills that leave a lasting impression and engage audiences large and small
Excellence in conveying technical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner through presentations, workshops, videos, blogs, podcasts, webinars, and/or social media
Excellent understanding of software development and security
Bonus: recognition and credibility in your technical community
What we offer
Our goal is to competitively and fairly compensate every r2cer with a system that equally rewards those who are vocal and those who are less comfortable making demands during the final steps of the hiring process. To that end, we generate internal compensation bands that are used when discussing and negotiating salaries. We update these based on market data to make sure they’re above the average for comparable roles.
We also invest in our employees’ well-being and long term success with comprehensive health plans, generous vacation time, 401k matching, learning stipends, and more. Our benefits are for everyone, so that you’re taken care of, and we work with individuals to make sure they have what they need, whether that’s quiet work space, adjusted hours, or any other accommodation.
Who we are
We have people from France and the Philippines, physics and philosophy, formal methods research and full fledged corporations. We’re new parents and new grads, aspiring authors and aspiring Americans, dog lovers and dogfooders. We get together often to bike, bake, and meet up in parks. In our interactions, we believe respect and honesty go hand in hand, and prioritize both.
